A New Rule to Make Fast Fashion Less Harmful

Fast fashion is when companies make clothes really fast and sell them super cheap. But behind the low prices are big problems. Workers are treated badly, they get paid very little, and the clothes hurt the environment.


One policy that could help fix this is a rule from the European Union called the "Extended Producer Responsibility." This rule says that clothing companies must take care of their clothes even after people throw them away. That means they need to pay for recycling, repairing, or reusing old clothes.


If this rule became stronger and is used in more places like in the US, companies might stop making cheap, throwaway clothes and start making better quality ones that last longer. It would also help reduce waste in landfills and protect the planet.


Some groups are already talking about this idea. If more people support it, it could become a real law. That would be good for workers, the environment, and even shoppers who want clothes that last.
