What Is Satire In The News?
Satire is when news is told in a funny or sarcastic way to make people think about serious problems. Shows like The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and Patriot Act use humor to talk about important topics like politics, money, or the environment. Instead of just giving boring facts, these shows make it entertaining so more people pay attention.

Satirical Coverage of Fast Fashion
One of the best examples of satirical news coverage on fast fashion is this episode from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver:
In the episode, John Oliver explains how companies like H&M and Zara sell clothes super fast and super cheap. He shows how this hurts workers in other countries and damages the planet. He uses jokes and funny clips, but also shows real videos of what happens in the factories where the clothes are made.
What I Think About the Episode
I think Oliver did a great job showing how fast fashion is not as harmless as it looks. His jokes made it easier to watch and understand, but the facts he shared were shocking. I didn’t know how badly workers were treated or how much waste the fashion industry creates. He made me laugh, but also made me think.
One problem with using comedy is that some people might not take it seriously. They might laugh and move on without changing their habits. Many people in the comment section feel the same way. Also, not everyone watches shows like this, so the message might not reach the people who shop fast fashion the most. But overall, I think satire is a good way to teach people about big problems in a way that doesn’t feel boring.
